access: technology sponsors Leeds Powerchair Football Club

We’re incredibly happy to announce access: technology is now a proud sponsor of Leeds Powerchair Football Club (LPFC). The club – formed in 2012 after the London Olympic Games – comprises of over 25 members who compete at all levels of this unique and diverse sport.

Our very own Assistive Technology Ambassador, Al Haigh, is a member of club and introduced us to the sport. As a result of cheering Al on from the side-lines, we wanted to get more involved as it combines the benefits of assistive technology with community engagement.

Powerchair Football is an important sport to us here at access: technology, as it illustrates brilliantly how technology can enable individuals to take part in activities which would have previously been thought impractical or even impossible.

According to the FA, at present Powerchair Football is the only active team participation sport for people who use electric wheelchairs. The game is designed specifically for anyone who uses a powered wheelchair or for those who have limited movement in a manual wheelchair. A fully inclusive, energetic and dynamic sport, it requires both great focus and discipline and as a result it makes for great watching as well as participating.

We look forward to cheering Al and the Leeds Powerchair team on soon, as well as to giving the sport a go on Sponsorship Day coming soon.

To learn more about the sport, visit the LPFC website here>> or the FA website here>>
