access: technology sponsors Leeds Powerchair Football Club

We’re incredibly happy to announce access: technology is now a proud sponsor of Leeds Powerchair Football Club (LPFC). The club – formed in 2012 after the London Olympic Games – comprises of over 25 members who compete at all levels of this unique and diverse sport.

Our very own Assistive Technology Ambassador, Al Haigh, is a member of club and introduced us to the sport. As a result of cheering Al on from the side-lines, we wanted to get more involved as it combines the benefits of assistive technology with community engagement.

Powerchair Football is an important sport to us here at access: technology, as it illustrates brilliantly how technology can enable individuals to take part in activities which would have previously been thought impractical or even impossible.

According to the FA, at present Powerchair Football is the only active team participation sport for people who use electric wheelchairs. The game is designed specifically for anyone who uses a powered wheelchair or for those who have limited movement in a manual wheelchair. A fully inclusive, energetic and dynamic sport, it requires both great focus and discipline and as a result it makes for great watching as well as participating.

We look forward to cheering Al and the Leeds Powerchair team on soon, as well as to giving the sport a go on Sponsorship Day coming soon.

To learn more about the sport, visit the LPFC website here>> or the FA website here>>

His presentation on the new AT competency framework reminded me of something I see time and time again in schools across the country: assistive technology succeeds or fails on the strength of the humans behind it. As an assistive technology specialist visiting mainstream and specialist settings up and down England, I see a b

Giving and receiving consent online vs offline: Is it any different?

Our lives are lived both offline, and, these days, more online than ever before. This includes our relationships, friendships, and sexual expressions. Whether you are swiping right on dating apps or hanging out with someone in person, consent is always essential. But how does consent work online? Is it different from "IRL" (in real life) situations? This post will explain how consent stays the same no matter where you are. No matter the setting, consent should always be: 1. Freely Given Co

Love on the spectrum: Neurodivergent friendly dating apps

Dating is already a confusing, vulnerable, and sometimes overwhelming experience for anyone. But for neurodivergent people, it can come with an extra layer of challenges that many others never have to think about. Whether you’re autistic, have ADHD, a brain injury, or live with other forms of neurodivergence, the world of dating can feel like it wasn’t built for you. From decoding body language and reading between the lines, to managing sensory overload in noisy bars or dealing with the unpredi
