I've been assisting AAC users in expressing themselves through the Super Core 50 communication package in Grid. When teaching children to use their AAC devices, we often focus too much on academic outcomes, such as sentence structure and vocabulary. To support AAC awareness month this October, I want to show you how to bring some fun into your communication.
Super Core, developed by Smartbox, is a vocabulary system designed to support language and literacy development, especially for users of Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) devices. It is designed to make words and phrases easy to find, with access to over 3,500 of the most frequently used words and phrases.
The messages section in Super Core is often overlooked. This section in Super Core 50 is a useful and powerful tool for users to express themselves quickly, ask for help, and ask or answer questions about themselves.
Super Core 50, available in child and teen vocabularies, has a pre-made jokes section. You can find this from the homepage using the navigation buttons below:
You can edit the grid to add extra jokes, personalising it to suit your needs.
Returning to the messages section, I recommend adding a jump page straight from here after asking if you can tell someone a joke.
